Corella Frenzy
At a certain time of the year, when the pine cones are "just right", we are visited by corellas-LOTS of them!!!!! If ever you have seen the Alfred Hitchcock movie "The Birds" it seems a bit like that! Walking up a street near my home on Saturday I was confronted with this sight....
Standing near that huge pine tree was an experience for the senses! Listening to the sound of hundreds of birds munching and crunching and stuffing themselves full of pine cone seeds while been pelted by their debris was memorable indeed! This is what they're after...
This is what is left behind when they have finished....

The mess left on the footpath!
You can understand why the farmers and property owners hate them as they can strip and orchard and ruin a crop in minutes! One local farmer has trained a falcon to circle around where they are and scare them off.
Our next door neighbour has a huge gum tree that shadows our backyard corner. The corellas decided to pay us a visit on Sunday!!The noise was deafening!
Some stopped for a rest or a bit of a canoodle!!
This one seems to be saying,"Well.......what the heck are you looking at!!!"
On the subject of birds, here is matchbox number 2...
postage stamps, origami paper, galah feathers

What a mess and they don't even eat them????? Seems senseless doesn't it.
Love your little matchboxes, they are all so cute.

Crikey! I've seen & heard these when we take walks by Linear Park and they are LOUD! Hope they did't turn up too early on Sunday. I had no idea they were so destructive. Your photos are amazing - and the matchbox v cute.

Thanks Jenny again for your kind comment in my blog! : )
Oh yes, I´ve seen the Birds a couple of times, one of my favourite films. This really looks like from the film and must be very impressive to experience it "live". But where do these birds go from this place? Do they have a certain route they follow all year long or how does it go? Your matchbox really fits the theme of your blog post. ; ) Those stamps look fantastic on the matchbox.

They are very noisy when they are on the rampage for food. Great pics.

We camped at Narracorte earlier this year and the caravan park there was host to a large group of correllas at various times of the day. Some people round about had gas guns which is meant to scare them away. Sometimes it worked, and most times it didn't. Of course, the gas gun going off scared me everytime! The birds were loud, but it didn't take us long to get used to them and near the end of the week they didn't wake us up at all! At first I thought how awful it would be to live with them, but in the end I quite enjoyed them and watching them.

You have Corella's and we have possum, the great Aussie bush invading suburbia, isn't it great. We do have Corella's here also and recently I saw a whole flock of them sitting on the bitumen road using their beaks to pull stones out of the tar, they are really intelligent birds but they are so destructive.

I have enjoyed visiting your blog and reading most of the way through it! We have had a huge flock of corellas visiting us in my eastern suburb of Melbourne - very strange but wonderful! Loved your photos too.
