The day after school ended I went to Newcastle for a dear friend's birthday celebration. After the party was over I spent a couple of days in Sydney with only myself to please. I shopped and walked and did lots of sightseeing and soaked up the city. I spent a day at the zoo. One of my favourite things to do.
I loved the Chinese Garden of Friendship. Such a tranquil and special place not so far from the hustle and bustle of the city.
It was so much fun to be around Darling Harbour the week before Christmas.
But it is always good to be home.
Christmas Day was a time to open my Secret Santa gift. I was spoiled rotten by Josie this year.
A beautiful bag so exquisitely made.
Along with such a cute crochet hook holder.
And some other lovely bits of crafty goodness. Josie your accuracy and precision amaze me! My gifts are gorgeous. How lucky was I to receive your wonderful presents. Thank you.
It never ceases to amaze me how generous crafty bloggers are. Thank you so much Josie and thank you Chooky Blue for continuing this tradition. It is a special thing you do:)
I sent gifts to Kerstin
We have had time to relax. I have been working on sewing these grannies together.
What started out as this in July
Is nearly at the finish line. I'm just working on the border now.
We have had this little Goober staying with us
So we've been walking early come rain or shine
We've been relaxing too
Happy New Year

The beach is a treasure trove of bits and pieces..
My walks are often filed with surprises along the way..
On this track that we frequent above the beach were some lovely paper mache greyhounds as part of an exhibition.
This contribution was called "We Walk" and it was quite lovely to spot the clever artwork on the way.
The garden is looking colourful and "springy".
I've finished this quilt top after it being a UFO for a very long time...
I enjoy fiddling around with some of my collected seaglass..
I'm loving the ranunculus petals..
And have had a go at pressing some..
Like I did with a couple of daffodils..
It is great to have time to fiddle around :)

Like many garden lovers a lot of time was spent this weekend in joyful abandonment in the garden.
For many years I have had a favourite tree that I was very attached to. We always looked forward to the predictable time of the year when that tree would be showing off its glorious vibrant orange blossom.
And attracting all the birds and bees.
It started to look a bit sick around Christmas time and we've spent most of this year trying to save it but with no success.
I spent a lot of today sawing off dead branches and now it looks like this..
We are not sure what went wrong as the tree has been in perfect health for over ten years. The native plant nursery woman said it may have hit a limestone layer.
We haven't decided what to put in its place yet.
I have a basket full of gumnuts..
And a very sore right arm from sawing and trimming.
On a more cheerful note, I used an old scarf to yarn bomb our weeping rose..
I have been enjoying all the spring bulbs and flowers..
And continuously marvel at the ever changing ocean..
We've been loving all the rain...
I've been fiddling around with crocheting different sized granny squares..

Once again we were the mad ones who braved the winter weather!
Empty spaces all around us..
Out in pretty much the middle of nowhere..
Didn't keep a close enough eye on my pink lady apples-they were robbed and enjoyed by cheeky kangaroos who proceded to scoff them right in front of me..
The glove box grew colour on the way over..
My washing up view was pleasantly distracting..
The days were clear and the rain happened after we left.
The first morning we had ice on the outside of the esky!
Our campfires were spectacular..
Red wine and my full on fake fur hat (that was like having a possum sitting on my head) were ESSENTIAL accessories..
And then I had another week to be in full on holiday mode.
Finishing UFOs, gardening, crocheting, fiddling, going for lunch, reading, walking, taking photos..

I was happy to read in the local paper that there was an exhibition of sculptures by one of my favourite wood carver artists Robin Turner.
Sadly, he had a stroke three years ago and is no longer able to create.
He made his artwork from recycled timber and iron.
Some of his big birds are permanent fixtures at my local winery.
The exhibition was wonderful with many pieces on display that are privately owned as well as some other works of his.
I loved this chess set and stool..
There were some pieces for sale that were WAY to expensive for my budget.
And some that weren't.
So...I splurged on my very own little birdie.
And a most unusual clock that I love..
Robin used to frequent our once a month market where he'd sell his beads and buttons.
Each time I'd go I would have a chat to him and buy a few.
I still do-though now I chat to two women who have taken over his noworrybeads business.
I have a bit of a collection now..
They are handmade locally using collected Australian timber, tree prunings, seed pods, recycled wood from salvage and cast resin.
I enjoy getting out and about in my local area.
But not today...
It is very, very windy..
and I am NOT a big fan of wind.
It is good for one thing though..
drying my quilt that I made ages ago and has become quite grubby..
It will be back on the bed in no time!

I'm very much in relax mode.
Hanging around at home a lot.
And spending quality beach combing time.
On the hot, hot days I'd crochet in the airconditioning
and this...
And I've started a simple quilt top with my favourite brights.
It felt good to get the machine going again.
I will have to get out of my habit of having an afternoon nap and staying up late.
As next week the lazy daze will come to a grinding halt!
Oh new school year are you here already?

This is one of my favourite times of the year.
All things Christmasy packed away.
And the brand New Year is here.
Lazy summer holidays.
Our beach is much busier than usual and our morning walks have been full of fun surprises!
I really enjoyed making my Secret santa gift and ornament for Laila
And receiving mine from Andrea
Lovely fun ornaments that make me smile:)
And a cute little purse and cheerful apron
Thank you so much Andrea-they are lovely and so well made.
Thank you once again to the wonderful Chooky Blue who brilliantly organises this swap each year with such skill and enthusiasm. I have been in every one so far and it has become part of my Christmas tradition now!
Have fun everyone and a Happy New Year to you:)
